Travelling - my happy moments

Updated: Mar 3

It seems to me, that there are very few people in the world that can say that they do not enjoy travelling. And I am definitely not among those people. Travelling and everything that comes with it is my happy place. But lately, travelling became one of those things that we take for granted. We made endless plans for visits, trips, booking planes, cars, accommodation, daily trips. At least, until the spring of 2020, when the world stopped for a few weeks and gave the nature a chance to rehabilitate a bit. And posed to all of us eager for travelling a dilemma. Suddenly travelling was off the table. And brought a question: Is this the end of the world as we know it? I must say, to me personally this also wasn't easy. But then, one day while I was sorting pictures from the last trip, I realized we have been the lucky ones. Not purely by the fact that we have travelled and seen places, but for the fact that these travels hold a memory of so much more. Memories of friendships, obstacles, experiences, cultures and all the other small things you get to experience while travelling. Memories that no one can take for us. And these experiences form us in the people we are today and the people we will become tomorrow. If travelling has thought me something it is the respect for different cultures and habits and to be more open-minded. -And along the way, you might discover who you are.

A short walk down the memory lane brought me to my first big trip in 2011. Oh, how happy I was when the tickets to Peru were booked. Until that day, I was only hearing about people packing their backpacks and setting off for a journey that might change their lives. Don't get me wrong, I did travel before. But these were weekend trips through Europe, maybe long weekends and inevitable two-week-seaside-holidays in Croatia. If you haven't done that at least once per year, you do not deserve to carry the Croatian citizenship. Travelling to another part of the world was a thrill, something i couldn't wait for. And it was everything I expect, but not easy. Nevertheless, it confirmed that my decision to travel as much as possible was the right thing to do.

Never say no to the next trip or adventure. You might regret it when you get older. I know that if I could do it all again, I would start a lot earlier. Today, I am happy to have a job that lets me travel a lot, although it brings a completely new dimension into the topic of travelling. And planning trips with my friends come on top of that, like a little meditation session. Since this is just an introduction to the topic, I will end it with one of my favourite quotes:

"Airports are places where journeys and dreams begin and end" (back cover of the Tony Parson´s book Departures seven stories from Heathrow, unfortunately, i do not know who is the author of the quote). #travelinbetweeen #ontheroad #roamingtheworld
